If ever a phrase raised Jewish Hackles it's That one --- Never Again.
The late Rabbi Meyer Kahane used that as the watchword for his organization - The Jewish Defense League (JDL.org). The JDL has been condemned as a hotbed of Jewish Terrorists or praised as a group of Jewish freedom fighters - or something inbetween.
But the strangest thing has happened - as my old cartoon friend Pogo Possum once said:
We have met the enemy and they is us!
America seems to be to the world as Judiam is to ethnicity.
"Jews are this clannish group of people who seem to have their own set of values, act like they are the chosen people and worship a Book of all things."
"Americans are this clannish group of people who seem to have their own set of values, act like they are the chosen country and worship a constitution of all things."
Ok, more proof:
Since Teddy Roosevelt was president in 1901(?) The United States has fought in 6 wars and innumerable military actions. We have NEVER gained an acre of land from this.
Every enemy that has been fortunate enough to be beaten by us has become a major economic power and totally politically independant. Remember that great book and movie "The Mouse that Roared"?
When we invade a country - we do not rape, pillage or loot. Any exceptions are punished severely. Ask about the conquering armies of Russia, Germany and Japan.
There is an old joke - With one Jew you get a monologue, two a dialogue, three a revolution. Or: Put two Jews together and you get at least three sides to any arguement.
Replace the word Jew with American Politician - the jokes still work.
As Americans we have decided that we will live by a creed. That creed is magnificantly summed up in the Declaration of Independance
We hold these truths to be self-evident. that all men are created equal, in that they were endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. Among these are Life, Liberty and the Persuit of Happiness
All men. Not all Americans but All men.
Now to make the conenction. There is a Hebrew phrase Tikkun Olam which translates into Heal the World.
When asked of G-d - why am I here -- G-d answers Tikkun Olam. Now read the words spoken by our President when he was inaugurated for the second time recently - Tell me that they were not inspired by that phrase?
After 3500 years of holocausts programs and murder, Rabbi Kahane stood up and screamed NEVER AGAIN.
After the sights of American airplanes used as missles, Americans beheaded and hanged from a bridge -- it is time for all Americans to stand up and in one voice scream
