I'm a short, overweight Jew. These facts have nothing to do - in a positive or negative manner - with my intelligence, my work ethic or my morality. I am an American, not a Jewish-American or a Colorado-American or even a Blood-type-A+-American. I have people that I respect extremely highly who hyphenate themselves. And of course the Morons drop the wrong side of the hyphenation.
As I read and remember the words of Martin Luther King, I do not think that the hyphenization of America was what he wanted, Nor is it what I want.
